Maze personnel have contributed to the fire safety design of the new terminal building at Tocumen Airport. This world-class project was designed by Fosters and Partners, one of the most renowned architecture firms globally. The complex and critical nature of the airport’s fire safety system required top-tier engineering expertise, a challenge we enthusiastically accepted and accomplished.
We were brought into this project at an early stage to perform comprehensive fire safety analysis, conducting computational smoke modelling and evacuation analysis. These activities were critical for achieving fire safety approvals, which laid the foundation for the later stages of the project. Our company seamlessly coordinated with the lead architecture firm, Fosters and Partners, and the main contractor, CNO. Through this partnership, we ensured that our fire safety designs were harmoniously integrated into the overall architectural plan and execution. Our collaboration was not limited to ensuring that the project met high fire safety standards, it also facilitated a cohesive working relationship where each party had a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
We believe that fostering a healthy relationship with regulatory authorities is crucial for a smooth project progression. To that end, we conducted regular in-person meetings in Panama to liaise directly with the approvals body. These meetings served dual purposes: firstly, we wanted to ensure we were meeting the stringent regulations for fire safety. Secondly, we aimed to make the approvals body feel part of the design team, establishing a collaborative relationship rather than an adversarial one.
The result is a new terminal at Tocumen Airport that not only boasts a stunning design by Fosters and Partners but that meets with internationally recognised fire safety standards. With our attention to detail, innovative approach, and thorough understanding of safety standards and regulations, we have ensured that the airport terminal provides the highest levels of fire safety to its visitors and employees without compromising the architectural intent.
The Tocumen Airport terminal project reflects our commitment to provide world-class fire engineering solutions. It showcases our ability to work cohesively with other project stakeholders, understand and comply with stringent regulatory requirements, and implement sophisticated fire safety designs in a complex architectural environment. This project stands as a testament to our professionalism, expertise, and dedication to creating safer spaces worldwide.
